Mr. S. David Tong has been named the 2006 Small Business Veteran of the Year by the Shenandoah Valley SBDC. Mr. Tong is the founder and CEO of Premier Technical Services, a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business, located in Luray. Premier provides management, administrative, fulfillment and technical support services for short and long-term projects. He is the Post Quartermaster of the Comer-Jones VFW Post 621 and his company organizes an annual golf tournament to support the Disabled American Veterans of Page County. Mr. Tong will now be nominated for the Virginia SBDC Veteran of the Year Award.
SV SBDC client Randy Andes (Randy's Do it Best Hardware Store) is featured as one of the Small Business Administration's Success Stories on the Richmond District's web site.
Mr. Mensel Dean of Harrisonburg was our 2005 Award winner and was subsequently named Virginia's 2005 Small Business Veteran of the Year by the Virginia SBDC Network. Mr. Dean is a partner with PBGH, LLP, an accounting firm with offices in Harrisonburg, Warrenton and Fredericksburg. He specializes in small-business consulting and was selected for this award based on his strong record of community service as well as his success in business. An engraved urn commemorating the award is permanently housed at the Virginia War Memorial in Richmond.

Joyce Krech, Training & Operations Coordinator of the SV SBDC was named the 2006 State Star of the Virginia SBDC. The award was presented at the Annual Conference of the Association of Small Business Development Centers in September 2006.

The January 2006 issue of Virginia Business magazine contains an outstanding article focusing on the role of business schools in assisting small business. The article features the work of the Shenandoah Valley Small Business Development Center. SV SBDC Director Henry Reeves, VA SBDC State Director Jody Keenan, and SV SBDC client Randy Andes are quoted in the article. Randy is also a member of the SV SBDC Advisory Council.
from USA Today Small Business Columnist Rhonda Abrams has written two timely articles about SBDCs and small business needs. Rhonda was once an SBDC client herself and she is a long time supporter of America's Small Business Development Center Network (ASBDC).

9/9/05: Congress Mulls Bill to Boost Support for Small Business Years ago, when I needed help in my businesses, I turned to a Small Business Development Center. I wasn't alone. The centers have helped more than 12 million entrepreneurs since 1980 when President Jimmy Carter established the Office of Small Business Development Centers, a part of the Small Business Administration. This week, the national network of small business centers - the Association of Small Business Development Centers - celebrated its 25th anniversary at its conference in Baltimore. . . more
